This new space in Saguenay will allow us to expand and vary our range of services in the region and further develop our work in the mining, aluminum, and naval construction industries.

Creating jobs

The expansion is expected to be completed in September 2022 and will help diversify services in the Saguenay region. Once completed, this new production space will be 70′ x 140′ and have a lifting capacity of 100 tons! The project will also create 40 new jobs in the region, meaning that we will soon be opening several new positions in Saguenay. Feel free to refer your contacts!

A word from Gabriel Tremblay

“This expansion is a wonderful project for our team in Saguenay. It will allow us to expand our services in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region and further support our clients in the aluminum, naval, and mining industries. The project has been highly anticipated by our team in the plant and we are thrilled that it will let us further leverage their incredible manufacturing expertise with this extra capacity. The project also includes a 25′ x 100′ section of new facilities for our workers. It’s an exciting project for everyone!” – Gabriel Tremblay, P.Eng., Director of Business Development.

Thank you to all the teams who made this project possible. We can’t wait to see the final result!

The company now has the best-paid welders in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean

Quebec City, Tuesday, December 20, 2022 — Charl-Pol management is proud to say that it now offers some of the best working conditions in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean area. With the signing of a new four-year collective agreement, workers at the La Baie plant will see their wages increase by 6% in the first year, for a total increase of over 15% by the time the current agreement ends in 2026. What’s more, Charl-Pol welders’ wages will now start at $24 an hour and reach up to $36 an hour.

Happy, satisfied employees

At Charl-Pol, the remarkably high retention rate of 94% leaves no doubt that employees are happy and want to stay with the century-old company. In fact, many have been with Charl-Pol for 20, 25, or even 30 years! The agreement—which follows two months of smooth negotiations—has something for everyone and positions Charl-Pol as an industry leader. It has left both parties pleased.

“I am delighted to announce the renewal of our collective agreement for the next 4 years. In addition to ensuring our operations remain stable, I believe that the new working conditions are proof of our company’s real commitment to recognizing and supporting the tradespeople who are so invaluable to our company.”

Raises for all

Welders aren’t the only ones reaping the benefits of this new collective agreement. Press operators, preparers, and forklift operators have also received a 6% pay raise starting immediately, for a total of 16.4% over 4 years, while day labourers, mechanics, and electromechanics will receive a total raise of almost 10%.

“We have also created a new position for a specialized fitter earning between $32.77 and $35.82 an hour. This is a very well-paid job, and one that meets our need to fill several fitter positions for our large-scale projects,” adds Gabriel Tremblay.

Three bonuses have also been increased. As a result, team leaders will receive an extra $1.50 per hour, while evening workers and trainers will receive an extra $1.25 per hour.
