A story of a passion passed down through generations
1921
Blacksmith and entrepreneur Joe Tremblay founds Charl-Pol and quickly begins to make a name for himself in the heavy industrial equipment sector.
1941
Four of Joe Tremblay’s 21 children decide to join forces with their father to export their skill and develop new products.
1973
The founder passes the torch to his sons Charles and Paul, after whom the company was named.
1989
The third generation gets involved in the company, with sons Richard and Marc taking the reins from their fathers.
1990
We begin our first expansion by acquiring a competitor’s plant in Laterrière.
1992
Expansion continues with the acquisition of several plants, including one in Portneuf, allowing us to broaden our expertise in machining and heavy equipment manufacturing.
1995
We expand our La Baie plant to meet growing demand.
1996
Richard Tremblay becomes sole owner after buying out Marc’s shares, ensuring the family business continues.
1999
Under Richard’s leadership, we open a new plant in La Baie, creating 125 additional jobs.
2001
We expand our Portneuf plant to meet the growing demand from our main industries.
2014
We expand our horizons with the opening of a plant in Kitimat, British Columbia, to serve the aluminum industry.
2016
We turn a strategic corner with the closure of our plant on rue de I’Innovation in La Baie, allowing us to centralize operations at our Saguenay and Portneuf sites.
2018
In a move to ensure continuity, Richard Tremblay joins forces with three key partners: Marlène Gauthier, Jonathan Lalande, and Jean-Sébastien Michaud, who become co-owners with a 25% stake in the company.
2019
Our expansion continues thanks to our association with other shareholders in Sept-Îles and Baie-Comeau, creating new jobs in the Côte-Nord region and strengthening our province-wide presence.
2020
We form another partnership in Baie-Comeau with Manic Industriels in the Côte-Nord region. This new strategic investment consolidates our local presence.
2021
Richard’s children, Andréanne and Gabriel, join the family adventure, taking over the management of the company. We continue to build on a heritage of over 100 years while remaining true to our values of people, loyalty, teamwork, the common good, innovation, and reliability.

Recognition for our achievements
2015
Portneuf plantOur Portneuf plant stood out as a finalist for its innovation, the “détoileur.” This lifting device came from a collaboration between a worker and their supervisor. It attaches to a crane and allows a single worker on the ground to remove the canvas from incoming parts, while eliminating risk at the source.
2011-2012
St-Anicet plantOur St-Anicet plant was the regional winner of the Innovation award in the large company category thanks to a tool we developed with our employees to prevent accidents by making procedures safer.
2006
Portneuf plantOur Portneuf plant was a regional finalist in the Grands Prix santé et sécurité du travail for the design of the “débosseleur,” a tool for removing dents in floors.

We have a large production force across our five plants (including Normec Industries and Manic Industriels) that is more than capable of meeting the high demands of our key sectors on time.
